New Year’s Resolution

It is the time of the year to decide to make a commitment to a personal goal – a new project or the reforming of a habit. Where did this idea originate? The background of resolutions has religious parallels. Judaism's Rosh Hashanah through the High Holidays and culminating on Yom Kippur encourages one to reflect on wrongdoings and seek, as well as offer forgiveness. During the Christian observation of Lent, the goal is similar but more of a personal sacrifice. Regardless of the creed, the motive is to reflect upon personal improvement annually.
