Barbara R. McHale, RN, BS, OCN, CBCN, ONN-CG
Barbara McHale is currently employed as the sole patient navigator at Samaritan Hospital Cancer Treatment Center, St. Peter’s Health Partners in Troy, New York. In her position she works with patients once they have positive pathology in breast, colon, head and neck, or lung cancer. It is a community based hospital with a cancer treatment center on the premises. Barbara has worked in the oncology field since graduating from nursing school in 1977. Her true “love” has always been oncology and she has worked both inpatient and outpatient units, hospice, public health case management, and as the Women’s Health Manager/Breast Navigator. This position allowed her to take all her background-acquired knowledge and find her true calling as a “Patient Navigator.”
Over the years she has continued her education with her BS, OCN, and CBCN. Her determination to provide the best care for her patients has developed into her evidence-based practice. She is currently involved in the Quality, Outcomes, and Performance Improvement Committee of the Academy of Oncology Nurse & Patient Navigators (AONN+) and believes that research can be invaluable for process improvement in patient care. She is a national and regional member of the Oncology Nursing Society, the National Coalition of Oncology Nurse Navigators, and AONN+.
