CRANBURY, NJ (June 22, 2022) – The Academy of Oncology Nurse & Patient Navigators (AONN+) is pleased to announce that Yamile Leon, RN, MSN, OCN, ONN-CG, ONN-CG(T), has been named to the new position of Director of Education. In this role, she will facilitate and coordinate AONN+ membership educational offerings, serve as a nursing faculty advisor and moderator for AONN+ projects and initiatives, and provide mentoring and coaching for AONN+ members and partners.

Leon brings a collaborative management style and an impressive clinical background spanning nearly 20 years to AONN+. Most recently, she served as the Patient Navigation Department Supervisor at Baptist Health South Florida. She has also been a member of AONN+ since 2010 and has served on several AONN+ leadership committees.

“I am excited to be able to help fellow navigators care for their patients and loved ones as they go through the care continuum,” says Leon. “When I first became a navigator, it was the ability to not just care for my patients at an acute time, but to be there for them long-term, that really resonated with me. Now, as AONN+’s Director of Education, I look forward to working with a team I have come to know through my committee work to make an even larger impact for my peers and this profession.”

“When we formed this new position, we knew we needed an excellent communicator whose rapport with our members and partners would allow them to build and enhance our educational offerings,” says Emily Gentry, BSN, RN, HON-ONN-CG, OCN, AONN+ Senior Director of Education and Program Development. “We could not be more pleased to have Yamile join our team. Her experience and passion for exceptional patient outcomes will be invaluable in this new role.”

Born and raised in Miami, FL, Leon is fluent in English and Spanish. She lives with her husband and 12-year-old daughter and together, they enjoy traveling to new and exciting locations in the United States and abroad.
