CRANBURY, NJ (Sept. 6, 2022) – Widely accepted as the guide for oncology navigators, the Oncology Navigation Standards of Professional Practice state that, “oncology navigators collaborate with patients and their loved ones and all members of the healthcare team.”

The Academy of Oncology Nurse & Patient Navigators (AONN+) Joins Fellow Cancer Leadership Council (CLC) Members in Appeal for Inflation Reduction Act

CRANBURY, NJ (Sept. 6, 2022) – The Academy of Oncology Nurse & Patient Navigators (AONN+) collaborated with other members of the Cancer Leadership Council (CLC) on a unified appeal to the Senate to include provisions to the Inflation Reduction Act concerning Medicare Part D and Enhanced Advanced Premium Tax Credits (APTCs). The joint effort resulted in a three-page letter sent to The Honorable Charles Schumer, Senate Majority Leader, and The Honorable Mitch McConnell, Minority Leader, on August 5, 2022.

AONN+ Urges Congress to Extend the American Rescue Plan Act and Address Medicaid “Coverage Gaps”

CRANBURY, NJ (July 25, 2022) – Seasoned navigators witnessed positive change for their patients when Congress increased the amount of and expanded eligibility for Advanced Premium Tax Credits, otherwise known as subsidies as part of the American Rescue Plan Act, in March 2021. This action made premiums in the health insurance marketplaces more affordable for millions. Unfortunately, there are still nearly as many people who are not able to access affordable, comprehensive health insurance because their states have not yet expanded their Medicaid programs to address “coverage gaps.”

AONN+ Urges Leadership of US Senate HELP Committee to Support Clinical Trial Diversity

CRANBURY, NJ (July 15, 2022) – The Policy and Advocacy Committee of the Academy of Oncology Nurse & Patient Navigators (AONN+) recently signed onto a letter to the US Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP), urging them to support inclusion of clinical trial diversity in the Senate User Fee Amendment (UFA) package. The letter was promoted by the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN) and the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS).

AONN+ Members Contribute to the Development of National Navigation Roundtable Supplement of the Journal Cancer

CRANBURY, NJ (June 22, 2022) – A new supplement to the June 2022 issue of the journal Cancer, titled “A Decade Later: The State of Patient Navigation in Cancer Care,” published by the American Cancer Society’s National Navigation Roundtable (NNRT), includes 13 articles outlining the impact of patient navigation and the critical role it plays in improving outcomes for cancer patients. Eight members of the Academy of Oncology Nurse & Patient Navigators (AONN+) who serve on the NNRT, supported this effort through best practice peer discussions, individual and group interviews, sharing treatment and outcome patient data, and even co-authoring on specific articles.
