The Academy of Oncology Nurse & Patient Navigators (AONN+) is pleased to announce Bina Parekh, PhD, as the Keynote Speaker for the Virtual 11th Annual Navigation & Survivorship Conference. A clinical psychologist with special expertise in cross-cultural psychology, gender and class issues, substance-related disorders, pain management and trauma, Dr Parekh is an Associate Department Chair and Associate Professor in the Clinical Psychology program at The Chicago School of Professional Psychology, Irvine.

The final day of the conference kept pace with the previous ones, examining a variety of topics most relevant to navigators. Representatives from the American Cancer Society’s Building Expertise, Advocacy, and Capacity for Oncology Navigation (BEACON) program shed light on their goal of bringing navigation to disadvantaged countries, and other sessions focused on resolving conflicts with colleagues, the importance of rehabilitation care for patients with cancer, and the dangers of vaping, among others. Bringing an end to yet another successful conference, the AONN+ Leadership Live session provided perspectives from leaders in the field before a fond farewell from AONN+ Program Director Sharon Gentry, RN, MSN, CBCN, CBEC, HON-ONN-CG.

Chock full of informative sessions, product theaters, and time to peruse the exhibit hall, Saturday also gave attendees the opportunity to choose from among 4 breakout sessions. One recognized winning poster presenters for their valuable work, while others explored the role of navigators in clinical trial accrual, especially among underrepresented populations; navigating cancer of unknown primary origin; and the complex world of value-based care and alternative payment models. Truly offering something for everyone in attendance, Saturday’s events imparted an abundance of knowledge to navigators.

Despite the inability to meet in person, navigators from throughout the country and beyond once again gathered for 5 days of valuable education and insights offered through the AONN+ Virtual Annual Conference. Rising to meet the changing role of navigators, along with new patient concerns in light of the COVID-19 pandemic, sessions provided a wealth of offerings.
