With more therapies available than ever before and greater patient involvement in treatment decisions, oncology nurse navigators face the perennial challenge of providing high-quality patient and caregiver education in reader-friendly language.

Enter CONQUER: the patient voice. Published by The Lynx Group as the official publication of The Academy of Oncology Nurse & Patient Navigators (AONN+), this patient-facing magazine was launched in February 2015 to fill an unmet need for AONN+’s oncology nurse navigators.

The recent proliferation of patient and caregiver support programs is being driven by greater patient involvement in health decisions, increasing attention on patient outcomes, and the growth of specialty drugs that require additional patient support. These programs encompass a range of services which enable pharmaceutical companies to improve access to, usage of, and adherence to prescription drug treatments.
The AONN+ Standardized Metrics Task Force collaborated with Oncology Solutions, LLC, to develop the NAVmetrics cloud-based IT platform powered by Oncology Solutions’ ONC iQ® business intelligence tool for navigators to utilize for data capture, management, and reporting of navigation metrics. The study aim is to validate the Standardized Evidence-Based Oncology Navigation Metrics.
Emerging pharmacologic therapies used for the treatment of oncology are being developed and approved at an accelerated rate.
The AONN+ Evidence into Practice Committee would like to extend thanks to all who responded to our recent survey in order to glean members’ knowledge and comfort level in quality, outcomes, performance improvement, and research projects that can be considered research in the broad sense of the word.
New to quality improvement and research and want to know how to begin? The AONN+ Mentorship Workgroup of the Evidence into Practice Committee have made it simple for you.
The role of the navigator along the continuum of care is bidimensional in nature with a patient-centered (empowerment with education and knowledge) and health system (multidisciplinary) orientation to deliver timely, seamless care. Within the multidisciplinary team, the navigator works as an advocate, care provider, educator, counselor, and facilitator to ensure that every patient receives comprehensive, timely, and quality healthcare services.
AONN+ is proud to announce the release of its white paper, Academy of Oncology Nurse & Patient Navigators Announces Standardized Navigation Metrics. The white paper addresses the history of navigation, the motivation for creating the standardized metrics, and how it is going to be applied.
In a Cancer.net podcast, AONN+'s Program Director and Co-Founder Lillie Shockney, RN, BS, MAS discusses her presentation “The Value of Patient Navigators as Members of the Multidisciplinary Oncology Care Team” she made at the 2016 ASCO annual meeting. Come hear what she has to say on this significant topic.
The Navigation Metrics Team met recently to discuss the development of evidenced-based metrics within navigation related to the various components of care with the goal of rolling out these metrics and making them available so that every program can utilize them.
