Are you responsible as a lung cancer navigator for coordinating your program's lung cancer screening program?

I was primarily responsible for our healthcare organization's lung screening program. As the volume grew, we hired a patient navigator to take over most of the work for the program, but I was still available to help with any clinical questions/needs that arose that were outside the patient navigator's scope.

I did a lot more in the beginning of our program. Once we were able to computerize the lung cancer screening order that took a lot off my plate. I do have to review results and check that folks did follow up or chose not to follow up with the recommendation. I am in charge of our free November lung screenings. In November for Lung Cancer Awareness month we offer free lung screenings to those who would normally qualify, but we also offer free screenings to fire fighters and veterans since they are exposed to so many chemicals.

Kudos to you and all those working to increase lung cancer screenings!

I'm grateful that many organizations have incorporated this into the EMRs for easier tracking and documentation. Offering FREE lung screenings during Lung Cancer Awareness Month (LCAM) in November is wonderful; Providing screenings for first responders and veterans who have been exposed is fantastic! Hopefully the number of those being screened will continue to increase with these generous efforts.

I'd love to hear how other Navigators are involved in screening as well,
